Prison Ministry

Jesus often spoke in parables but not this time. Here he tells how you can “inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” Have you ever wanted to do prison ministry but didn’t know where to start? Have you ever felt like reaching out to the incarcerated children of God but just didn’t think you could go inside prison to do it? Do you want your Sunday School group to hear stories about what happens when Christ’s love is offered inside a maximum security prison? To find out how you and/or your group can help, please contact Lee Davis (757-679-3249).

Prisoner Visitation & Support

Eastern Shore Chapel participates in Prisoner Visitation & Support, a national volunteer organization directed primarily to federal prisons. Our priority is to visit those prisoners who:

  • Do not ordinarily receive visits from family and friends

  • Want or need visits

  • Are in solitary confinement

  • Are on death row, or

  • Are serving long sentences

Our purpose is to provide prisoners with regular, face-to-face, contact from the world outside of prison to help them cope with prison life and prepare for a successful re-entry into society. PVS is nonsectarian, although God always seems to be present. Our prisoners come from all religions and often are “between” faith times in their lives. If you might have an interest in monthly or quarterly visits, contact Scott Vollmer.

Kairos Programs

Kairos Programs for Incarcerated Men and Women send

well-organized, well-trained volunteer teams  from all over Virginia to present an introductory 3-day weekend, described as "a short course in Christianity." This interdenominational team of volunteers—both clergy and laypersons—works in cooperation with the prison chaplain, who carefully selects up to 42 inmate leaders to attend. The singular objective is to develop a self-sustaining Christian community. Kairos is an overwhelmingly volunteer organization, with over 20,000 volunteers worldwide, ministering to incarcerated individuals, their families, and those who work with them.
