The Diocesan Nominating announced the five nominees for the 10th Diocesan Bishop of Southern Virginia. You may view nominees’ biographical sketches, and written answers to six questions posed by the nominating committee, by clicking HERE.

Calling all families with children under 12 years to an evening of fellowship. Our next Family Fun Night will be at 6:00 p.m. on August 29th at the home of Christy & Chip Rudolf, 805 Vanderbilt Avenue. Please call the Rudolfs at 422-0361 to RSVP. The host family provides the main course (pizza, hotdogs, etc.) while the other families bring side, salad or dessert and drinks. The Rudolf family is anxious to hear from you, so plan ahead and give them a call. All are welcome!

Our next semi-annual meeting of all committee chairs previously scheduled for August 27th has been MOVED to Wednesday, September 3rd at 7:15 p.m. If you are a committee chair or lead a small group here at ESC, please plan to attend this very important meeting.

It’s not too late to sign up for Friends of the Chapel supper groups. We’ll kick off the new season with a dinner in the parish hall on September 21 at 6 p.m. If you have questions, call Linda and Craig Caulkins, the Friends coordinator team (721-9310), or Debbie Quam, the staff liaison, at the parish office (428-6763).

On September 13th Eastern Shore Chapel is sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner to raise money for Suzy Booze’s medical treatment. Kay O’Reilly and her team of cooks will prepare a delicious meal with the first sitting to start at 5:00 and the second sitting to begin at 7:00. Don Gay and Meryl Barns will entertain the guests with strolling Italian music. The Parish Day School is volunteering to provide childcare for both the 5:00 and 7:00 dinner times with donations accepted for this service. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the church office, Parish Bookstore, on Sunday mornings or from a member of ESC involved with ticket sales.

Christian Formation Celebration: Join us on Sunday, September 7th as we kick off a new year of Christian Formation here at ESC. This special celebration will include the annual Blessing of the Backpacks at the 10:30 a.m. service.

Beginning Sunday, September 7, 2008 our worship schedule will be: 8:00 a.m. Rite I Holy Eucharist; 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Christian Education; 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. Coffee & Fellowship; 10:30 a.m. Rite II Holy Eucharist with Choirs. On Friday, September 19th Life Line will be offering four important health screenings: Stroke/Carotid Artery Screening, Abdominal Aneurysm Screening, Peripheral Artery Disease Screening, and Osteoporosis Screening. These tests are non-invasive, completely painless screenings using Doppler ultrasound technology. All four tests take less than one hour. You must pre-register to participate.
