Vacation Bible School - Adult Volunteers

Position Description: Teachers, helpers, kitchen volunteers. Lots of opportunities to contribute to a meaningful week of activities for children ages 4 through 5th grade. Especially need people to work with preschool children. Training and lesson plans provided. Our curriculum is ReNew: The Green VBS. Jesus' parable of the sower brings together the Bible and environmental stewardship. Our children will grow in faith as they play, learn, sing, and work toward renewing their congregations and communities.

Days/Hours Needed: August 16-20, 9 a.m. to noon

Experience/Skills Needed: Love of working with children.

Vacation Bible School - Teen Volunteers

Position Description: Teens are needed as classroom aides and small group shepherds. Opportunity to work with young children and make a difference. Volunteer time counts as community service!

Creative Sewing

Position Description: Looking for a few people who enjoy sewing to help make Christmas pageant costumes for children. Pattern, fabrics and supplies will be provided. (Always willing to accept fabric and trimming if you have extra.) Commit to make one costume or more.

Days/Hours Needed: Work at your own pace. Due date: December 1

Experience/Skills Needed: Owns a sewing machine and knows how to use it.

Greeter Coordinator

Position Description: This volunteer will help to recruit and schedule greeters for the 9 and 11:30 a.m. services.

Flower Delivery

Position Description: Flower deliverers are needed after the 11:30 service on Sundays. Flowers are delivered to parishioners in the hospital, at home recovering or in celebration of their birthday. Arranged flowers can be picked up in the flower room before 12:30 and delivered along with a service bulletin and card. Directions to the delivery location are printed out for your convenience. Each deliverer has two arrangements to deliver and it usually takes about one hour.

ESC Bus Driver

Position Description: Drivers are needed for the ESC bus on Sunday mornings. Parishioners in need of transportation are picked up on Sunday mornings to attend the 9 a.m. service and, at the discretion of the assigned driver, Adult Forum. The route currently extends to Atlantic Shores, with pick up on Atlantic Avenue and Russell House on First Colonial Road.

Days/Hours Needed: Sundays prior to the 9 a.m. service

Experience/Skills Needed: Must be 21 years of age and have a current driver's license

Parish Bookstore Volunteer

Position Description: Greet and serve customers in person and on the telephone. Ringing up sales on computer.

Days/Hours Needed: Weekdays 9 a.m. to noon or noon to 3 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to noon; Wednesdays 3 to 7 p.m.

Experience/Skills Needed: Computer experience helpful, but not required

Chapel Pantry Food Distribution Volunteer

Position Description: Welcome and pick and bag groceries for guests seeking food assistance from the Chapel Pantry. Volunteers may be required to assist guest in completing a short information form.

Days/Hours Needed:Monday through Thursday, 2-4 p.m. We especially need: one volunteer for Mondays (can choose to work every week or just once or twice per month as long as it's consistent); one volunteer needed for the first and third Wednesdays of each month; one volunteer for Thursdays (can choose to work every week or just once or twice per month as long as it's consistent).

Chapel Pantry Food Distribution Volunteer for New Friday Opening

Position Description: Welcome and pick and bag groceries for guests seeking food assistance from the Chapel Pantry. Volunteers may be required to assist guest in completing a short information form.

Days/Hours Needed:Fridays from 2 to 4 p.m. beginning March 5. Two voounteers needed every Friday for new food distribution day. Bring a book as it will probably be slow at first until people realize we're open. (Volunteers can choose to work every week or just once or twice per month as long as it's consistent).

Chapel Pantry Friday Foodbank Shopper

Position Description: These volunteers drive the church van or a personal vehicle to the Foodbank in Norfolk on Friday mornings. They shop for pantry supplies for 30 minutes, load the vehicle, then return to the church and unload and stock the supplies.

Days/Hours Needed:Fridays, 9 to 11:30 a.m. (Volunteers can choose to work every week or just once or twice per month as long as it's consistent)

Experience/Skills Needed: Must be able to lift 50 pounds. No special experience or training required. Training provided.

Chapel Pantry Food Stocker/Organizer

Position Description: These volunteers stock groceries, canned goods and produce into the Chapel Pantry. Responsibilities include breaking down boxes, organizing and rotating stock, bagging produce and rice.

Days/Hours Needed:Mondays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and/or Wednesdays 10 a.m. to noon. (Volunteers can choose to work every week or just once or twice per month as long as it's consistent)

Chapel Pantry Foodbank Shopping Assistant

Position Description: These volunteers accompany Kay in the church van and assist in loading stock and shopping for pantry supplies. Then it's back to the church to help unload and stock supplies.

Days/Hours Needed:Wednesdays 8:30 to 11 a.m. (Volunteers can choose to work every week or just once or twice per month as long as it's consistent)
